Role Overview:
As a Senior Product Design Engineer specializing in aerospace, you will be integral to the development of Skydio's mechanical systems, which are crucial for ensuring reliable autonomous flight. Your engineering expertise and attention to detail will be essential as you enhance aerodynamic design, solutions, and performance, enabling our fleets to operate effectively while instilling confidence in our customers.
Your Impact:
Lead the design efforts for Skydio aircraft through aerodynamic analysis, simulation, and conducting experiments, focusing on concept and detailed design with aerodynamic principles in mind.
Develop and assess aerodynamic models to define flight envelopes and predict vehicle dynamics.
Design and execute experiments, analyze flight test data, and validate simulations to refine aerodynamic models and enhance aircraft performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including structures, controls, and hardware engineering, to inform design and integration processes.
Work closely with the Flight Test Team to create test plans and analyze post-flight data.
Partner with thermal engineers to develop and optimize integrated thermal solutions for vehicle systems.
Conduct low/mid/high-fidelity CFD analyses to evaluate aerodynamic and mechanical design features and predict aircraft performance and stability.
Take ownership of the aerodynamic design of our aircraft and essential accessories from inception to realization.
Collaborate with mechanical and propulsion engineers to integrate optimizations into both new and existing architectures.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development, showcasing a strong track record of execution, collaboration, and enthusiasm.
Proficiency in reduced order aircraft performance modeling and computational fluid dynamics.
