This role is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, with a Hybrid-Remote work arrangement (in-office/field presence required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
The Senior Project Controls Estimator will play a vital role in consolidating project scope and cost for initiatives ranging from approximately $25 million to over $1 billion. This position ensures adherence to governance processes and assists Project Managers in obtaining necessary executive approvals throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in project estimation and aggregation methodologies, including risk management and contingency planning.
- Collaborate with Project Management, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Regulatory teams to plan, schedule, and manage the collection of scope and cost data for project aggregates at each stage gate across all disciplines.
- Conduct thorough analyses of cost estimates to ensure alignment with historical benchmarks for similarly scoped projects, investigating discrepancies with estimators from functional groups.
- Oversee documentation for stage gate updates and regulatory submissions.
- Perform peer reviews of project aggregations with minimal supervision.
- Generate cost estimates for new Transmission & Distribution Substations, Substation Rebuilds/Expansions, Major Equipment Replacements, Protection Upgrades/SA3, and new Customer Substations.
- Prepare scope take-offs based on Design Specifications, Meeting Minutes/Scope of Work, and Electrical & Civil drawings.
- Estimate material and labor costs following established estimating standards for both direct and indirect costs, utilizing cost estimating tools such as SCMT and InEight.
- Engage with cross-functional stakeholders to review cost estimates, leveraging Engineering, Cost Estimating, Scheduling, and Project Management knowledge to obtain necessary approvals.
- Conduct detailed variance analyses for cost estimates at various stages of project development.
