About the job
Why Choose Mozilla?
Mozilla Corporation is a non-profit-backed technology company that has significantly improved the internet over the past 25 years. We are the creators of pioneering brands such as Firefox, a web browser focused on privacy. With over 225 million users globally, we are on a mission to shape the next era of technology and reclaim the internet for individuals, not corporations. Our diverse projects span areas like AI, social media, security, and more, all while remaining committed to our core mission of enhancing the internet for everyone.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit 501(c), we prioritize our mission over shareholder profits. Together with thousands of volunteers and collaborators worldwide, we design, build, and distribute open-source software that empowers people to navigate the internet on their terms.
About the Team and Role:
The Localization Team is responsible for the infrastructure that supports localization across all Mozilla products and services, while also assisting our global community of volunteer localizers. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in various localization projects and technologies—ranging from Pontoon, our Django-based Translation Management System, to open-source libraries like moz-l10n. You will also work on the development of standards such as Unicode MessageFormat and internationalization features that enhance the user experience of Firefox and other Mozilla products.
In this role, you will participate in architectural discussions and drive feature development within the team. At Mozilla, Senior Engineers are expected to work independently on clearly defined projects, collaborate effectively with peers, and contribute significantly to delivering high-quality software that aligns with the team’s objectives and Mozilla’s overarching mission.
Your Responsibilities:
- Develop Python and JavaScript libraries (like moz-l10n) and tools that underpin Mozilla’s localization infrastructure.
- Collaborate with engineers and program managers to enhance our localization systems.
