About the job
Founded in 2007, Airbnb has transformed from a simple hosting platform into a global community, with over 5 million hosts welcoming more than 2 billion guests across the world. Our mission is to create unique stays and experiences that connect guests with communities in an authentic manner.
The Community You Will Join:
At Airbnb, we are mission-driven, striving to foster a world where anyone can feel at home anywhere. Achieving this vision requires a collaborative team that embodies our core values. Our diverse functions reflect the innovative spirit of Airbnb, and our agile team is dedicated to leading in the 21st century.
The Networking team within Airbnb's Cloud Infrastructure organization is responsible for the entire Airbnb production network infrastructure. We design, build, and operate the software and solutions that connect all Airbnb users and services, including traffic proxies, load balancers, service meshes, VPC/backbone, and cross-region connectivity, as well as network monitoring and security systems. With a global user base, our core focuses are reliability, scalability, efficiency, and high availability.
The Difference You Will Make:
As a key member of the network infrastructure team, you will collaborate with talented engineers on cutting-edge technologies within the cloud-native network stack, spanning Layer 3 to Layer 7. You will play a vital role in developing key infrastructure components that connect Airbnb users and services globally. You will have the opportunity to shape and influence major infrastructure initiatives, including global traffic load balancing, disaster recovery, next-gen service mesh, cross-region gateways, and edge security.
Airbnb is proud to be a part of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) end-user community, working closely with the open-source community (e.g., Kubernetes, Istio) and peer companies to address cloud-native engineering challenges at scale. You will also have the chance to impact the industry and contribute to open-source initiatives.
A Typical Day:
- Collaborate with open-source communities (e.g., Istio) to develop the next generation of service mesh for all Airbnb backend services.
