About the Role
As a Shop Hand, your role will be crucial in ensuring that Reflect’s engineering shop operates seamlessly. You will be responsible for maintaining tools and equipment, organizing the workspace, staging hardware for builds and tests, and assisting engineers with basic fabrication, assembly, and preparation tasks. This position is hands-on, fast-paced, and concentrates on fostering a clean, safe, and highly productive environment that supports rapid hardware development.
No advanced machining or engineering experience is required—what we seek are individuals with exceptional attention to detail, a readiness to learn, and a strong sense of responsibility and organization within the shop.
Responsibilities
Maintain an organized, clean, and fully stocked shop with tools, PPE, consumables, and materials.
Perform equipment maintenance: basic upkeep, calibration checks, light repairs, and tool condition assessments.
Stage parts, hardware, tools, and fixtures for upcoming builds and tests.
Assist with basic fabrication tasks including cutting, sanding, drilling, deburring, labeling, and simple assembly.
Operate shop equipment with guidance, including bandsaws, drill presses, sanders, manual tools, and basic 3D printers.
Manage hardware inventory: sort, restock, label, and kit materials.
Prepare workstations for engineers and builders to minimize setup time and enhance productivity.
Provide support to build engineers with simple tasks on jigs, fixtures, carts, and testing setups.
Conduct material runs, pickups, and drop-offs when necessary.
Uphold a safe working environment by adhering to and promoting safety protocols.
Ideal Qualifications
Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
Familiarity with basic hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
Experience in a shop, makerspace, garage, or similar environment is advantageous.
Ability to safely lift, move, and stage hardware and materials.
A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt.
