The Role
As a Software Engineering Manager / Team Lead at Fig, you will embody a player-coach approach — dedicating approximately half of your time to hands-on coding and the other half leading a dynamic, high-impact team.
In this role, you will oversee a dedicated product team, managing the complete product landscape, which encompasses:
- Customer-facing frontend applications
- Backend services and public APIs for B2B partners
- Internal administrative and operational tools
You will supervise a team of four engineers (2 senior, 1 mid-level, and 1 junior), report directly to the VP of Engineering, and take full ownership of team management, technical execution, and delivery outcomes.
Since our launch in early 2023, Fig has gained significant momentum, generating revenue and attracting real customers. While our core platform is operational, we remain in the exciting phase of an early-stage company. This position offers a unique opportunity to take on meaningful ownership — influencing team dynamics, fostering a culture of execution, and shaping technical direction while remaining actively involved in development.
Your Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Develop production code across the stack while maintaining a hands-on approach to daily development.
- Drive technical design and contribute to architectural decisions across frontend, backend, and internal tools.
- Evaluate pull requests, maintain engineering standards, and ensure consistency across codebases and systems.
- Manage feature development from conception through deployment and operation in a production environment.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and nurture a team of four engineers with diverse experience levels.
- Establish clear expectations, provide continuous feedback, and support individual growth and development.
- Recruit engineers to fill roles and facilitate future team expansion.
- Cultivate a high-trust, high-ownership team culture emphasizing quality and accountability.
