The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing the welfare of children and families through comprehensive child welfare, juvenile justice services, and community support initiatives. ACS oversees community-based support systems, foster care services, and offers subsidized childcare vouchers while ensuring child protection through prompt responses to allegations of maltreatment. In the realm of juvenile justice, ACS provides oversight for detention, placement, and community youth programs.
Within ACS, the Division of Family Permanency Services (FPS) is committed to delivering exceptional services to children and youth in foster care, helping them achieve permanency, ensuring their safety while in care, and enhancing their overall well-being. FPS guides foster care agencies in child welfare policies, provides technical support to strengthen practices, coordinates essential services, and offers direct case planning for youth not placed with an agency. The division encompasses the Offices of Provider Agency Collaboration and Engagement, Strategic Program Support, Older Youth Development Services, and Youth Success Services.
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner within FPS is responsible for managing Central Operations, ensuring efficient administrative processes, overseeing the FPS personnel budget, and facilitating staff recruitment and personnel actions. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Special Projects Undergraduate Intern to join our Central Operations team.
As a Special Projects Undergraduate Intern, you will assist in daily operations and contribute to ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing services for children and youth in foster care. This internship provides an incredible opportunity for exposure to various FPS operational aspects focused on helping youth achieve permanency, ensuring safety, and improving well-being. As part of the 2026 ACS Summer Internship Program cohort, you will engage in an enriching program designed to immerse students in the ACS and NYC government experience, including professional development workshops, lunch and learn sessions, speaker events, NYC government tours, and networking opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in reviewing youth-related policies and protocols, providing insightful analyses and feedback to ensure relevance and clarity in alignment with young people's needs.
- Support special projects by collating information, conducting report analyses, developing and maintaining spreadsheets, and creating presentation materials for division-wide meetings.
- Provide administrative support as required, such as organizing documentation, maintaining records, and coordinating various office functions.
