About the job
At Headway, we're on a transformative mission to revolutionize mental health care by creating a system that everyone can access. Our innovative technology connects individuals with exceptional therapists through the nation’s first software-enabled network of insurance-accepting providers.
In the U.S., 1 in 4 individuals grapple with treatable mental health conditions, yet many providers do not accept insurance, making therapy unaffordable for countless people. Headway is dedicated to building a mental healthcare system designed for accessibility by streamlining the process for therapists to accept insurance and expand their practices.
Founded in 2019, Headway has rapidly evolved into a diverse national network of over 60,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states, utilizing our software to serve over 1 million patients. Backed by over $325 million in funding from leading investors like a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Accel, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Spark Capital, Thrive Capital, Forerunner Ventures, and Health Care Service Corporation, we are a Series D company on the forefront of mental health technology.
We strive to make your experience here the most impactful in your career. Join us to help reshape mental healthcare for the better.
About the Role:
Provider-sourced patients constitute 80% of new monthly patients at Headway, yet we have developed limited product support for how providers discover, engage, convert, and retain these patients. This initiative holds high visibility across the company, including our CEO, and represents a significant opportunity for growth and impact.
As a Staff Product Designer focusing on Provider Sourced Patients, you will be the design leader for a dedicated team addressing this critical challenge. You'll spearhead the design vision and execution across the entire provider-sourced patient journey—from assisting providers in marketing their practice and identifying prospects to crafting the user flows that integrate patients into Headway and enhancing conversion and retention strategies.
Your journey will kick off with an extensive design sprint in Q1 2026, aimed at consolidating fragmented organizational insights and fostering collective agreement on strategic investments.
What sets this role apart: You'll need to grasp the nuances of various provider segments—including practice starters vs. seasoned professionals, therapists vs. prescribers, and solo practitioners vs. groups—each with distinct patient sourcing needs and behaviors. We seek a designer who excels in segmentation at scale and systems thinking: creating adaptable solutions that cater to unique segment requirements while ensuring a cohesive, unified Headway experience—understanding when to personalize and when to standardize. You will work with significant autonomy and ownership, regularly presenting to executive leadership, including our CEO, and making impactful recommendations backed by data.
