The Bankruptcies & Hardships (B&H) team is an innovative engineering group dedicated to developing Affirm’s essential servicing platforms that assist customers during pivotal financial situations. This team is responsible for backend services and pipelines that manage bankruptcy processes and deliver compliant, dependable hardship support at scale. As a member of this team, you will engage with distributed systems, event-driven pipelines, and high-availability services, all while maintaining a strong focus on correctness, auditability, and operational excellence. You will work closely with product management, compliance, and other platform teams, helping to shape foundational systems in a greenfield setting. This is a high-impact role where you can leverage your deep backend expertise in Python and Kotlin to create systems that significantly benefit both customers and the business.
What You'll Do
- Lead the technical strategy for your team over a yearly horizon, aligning it with crucial, business-impacting projects.
- Collaborate throughout the product development lifecycle with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and manage risks and trade-offs effectively.
- Enhance your team's capabilities by defining and advocating for robust technical solutions and operational processes.
- Take responsibility for your team’s operational excellence by ensuring proper monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting are in place to support ongoing operations and on-call efforts.
- Promote a culture of quality and accountability by setting high standards for code reviews and design, and advocating for these standards through documentation and technical presentations.
- Mentor and develop talent within your team by providing constructive feedback and guidance while leading by example.
- Participate in an on-call rotation as a requirement of the role.
