Position Objective:
The Sterile Processing Technician I is responsible for the assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments, trays, utensils, and linen packs. This role includes performing distribution functions related to case carts and sterile instrumentation. The position requires the ability to execute all Sterile Processing functions effectively, along with rotating weekend and on-call responsibilities. A professional appearance is mandatory, including compliance with a strict dress code of surgical scrubs.
Essential Job Duties:
- Conducts decontamination processes, including the removal of gross debris, inspection of lumens, and processing of laparoscopic equipment and instruments, following departmental and regulatory standards.
- Accurately documents all tasks performed using the instrument tracking software SPM.
- Implements quality control measures to ensure standards are met.
- Inspects and assembles equipment, instruments, scopes, and sets to verify functionality and cleanliness.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area, ensuring it's functional for peer use.
- Performs high-level disinfection (HLD) with precision.
- Efficiently operates sterilizers and washers, managing sterilizer cart loading and unloading.
- Reviews daily OR schedules to anticipate needs and ensure case carts are complete.
- Processes requisitions and requests from other departments in a timely manner to maintain inventory.
- Utilizes patient-specific pick lists to gather surgical instruments and disposable supplies requested by the surgical team.
- Documents the case cart build process in SPM, continuously updating tracking information.
