About GiveDirectly
At GiveDirectly (GD), our mission is to revolutionize the landscape of international philanthropy by delivering cash grants directly to the world’s most impoverished communities. According to the Brookings Institution, an estimated $70 billion in cash transfers is necessary to close the global poverty gap, yet the aid sector expends $135 billion annually on interventions lacking solid evidence. We aim to disrupt this norm by establishing cash transfers as the gold standard for foreign aid, akin to how index funds serve the financial sector, catalyzing the elimination of extreme poverty.
Since our inception in 2011, GD has successfully raised over $1 billion and provided cash assistance to more than 1.5 million individuals across 15 countries. Our commitment to large-scale experimental research demonstrates the profound impact our programs have on recipients. Recognized as one of the most innovative non-profit organizations by Fast Company, we are proud to be featured in prestigious publications including the New York Times Magazine, This American Life, Foreign Affairs, and The Economist.
Our organizational culture is characterized by openness, analytical thinking, agility, and a flat hierarchy. Our diverse global workforce of approximately 150 individuals, along with country operations teams of around 650, represent 21 nations and speak 69 languages. Our team comprises software engineers, humanitarian veterans, former management consultants, public servants, researchers, and field operatives—creating an extraordinary collaborative environment.
We are committed to fostering a workplace that allows every team member to flourish, succeed, and develop professionally. We advocate for flexible work arrangements, prioritize team well-being, inject fun into our activities, and provide ample opportunities for professional advancement.
