The Host Assurance team is tasked with transforming bare metal into a secure and scalable foundation for OpenAI. Our aim is to ensure that it is secure by default, verifiable in practice, and resilient across different providers and operational models. We operate at the critical intersection of physical hardware and cloud-scale orchestration, ensuring that hosts can safely run workloads with reliable security properties and auditability.
About the Role
OpenAI is in search of a Technical Lead for Host Assurance to take ownership of the trust foundations for bare-metal platforms across our global infrastructure. This role is a unique blend of hands-on technical building and people leadership, encompassing the complete Host Assurance charter. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the essential security infrastructure that establishes trust in hardware platforms prior to their readiness for workload execution.
To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate deep technical credibility, strong decision-making abilities under pressure, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with infrastructure, research, and security teams without causing delays in execution. The systems you design will be pivotal to OpenAI’s significant investments in frontier infrastructure and will directly influence how vast amounts of compute resources are securely and responsibly deployed at a global scale, reinforcing our enduring commitments to privacy, security, and reliability.
You will lead a small, highly skilled team while remaining actively involved in architecture, implementation, and operational readiness. At OpenAI, leadership is demonstrated through the successful delivery of robust systems and the development of your team. This role requires close collaboration with infrastructure, research, and confidential initiatives—including innovative hardware platforms and new deployment models—necessitating hands-on technical leadership to streamline the secure processes rather than merely enforcing policies or managing personnel.
In this role, you will:
Define and enhance the baseline security properties necessary for bare-metal hosts to qualify for production use.
