AECOM is seeking a dedicated Transmission Engineer to join our rapidly expanding Energy Business Line, focusing on Transmission and Distribution projects.
Our engineering team delivers a comprehensive suite of civil and structural engineering services across various sectors, including electrical transmission and distribution, renewable energy, and substations. We are in search of a motivated individual eager to enhance their technical expertise and serve our diverse client base. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of civil and structural design principles related to transmission and distribution systems.
This position is hybrid, allowing flexibility with a mix of remote and in-office work, and can be based in various locations including Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Columbia, SC; Atlanta, GA; Richmond, VA; Nashville, TN; Chattanooga, TN; Orlando, FL; and Louisville, KY.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct engineering analysis and design for overhead transmission lines, involving structure loading, conductor sag/tension, foundations, and line routing.
- Develop construction packages that include plan & profile drawings, structure selection, material specifications, and engineering calculations.
- Utilize industry-standard software tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.
- Assist in project lifecycle activities encompassing scope development, cost estimation, scheduling, and field support.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant codes, standards, and guidelines (NESC, ASCE, company standards).
- Collaborate with internal teams (siting/permitting, substation engineering, project management) and external stakeholders (contractors, vendors, regulatory bodies).
- Provide engineering support during construction phases, including responding to RFIs and performing field verifications.
- Maintain thorough documentation and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of design standards.
- Identify and address site challenges such as geotechnical conditions, access and environmental constraints, and constructability issues by delivering timely technical support.
- Foster professional relationships with clients and engage with their internal engineers and technical experts regularly.
- Assist in developing task and effort estimates for proposal support.
- Promote positive collaboration with peers.
- Occasional travel to other AECOM locations and client sites may be required.
- Participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, and climb ladders as necessary.
