About the job
The Bureau of Immunization (BOI) is dedicated to safeguarding public health by preventing the spread of infectious diseases through effective immunization strategies. Our surveillance unit plays a crucial role in monitoring the incidence of diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, varicella, and invasive pneumococcal disease among children under five years of age. We ensure rigorous control measures and prompt outbreak responses to protect our communities.
As the Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) Exposure Setting Lead, you will act as a vital link between our unit and various exposure settings throughout New York City, including educational institutions, childcare centers, healthcare facilities, shelters, and workplaces experiencing cases of vaccine-preventable diseases. Reporting to the Unit Chief, you will provide essential guidance on tailored control measures to limit disease transmission and oversee the implementation of these measures.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the primary liaison for exposure settings across NYC, addressing cases of reportable vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Delivering timely, context-specific guidance on control measures, including exclusions, post-exposure prophylaxis, and communication strategies for affected individuals.
- Documenting all guidance in our surveillance database (Maven).
- Following up with various settings to ensure effective implementation of control measures.
- Supporting data analysis by monitoring disease trends and investigating epidemiological patterns during elevated case counts.
- Assisting in epidemiological and statistical projects for surveillance, program evaluations, grant reporting, and research.
- Training and supervising staff during outbreak responses in exposure settings.
- Engaging in additional Bureau of Immunization activities as required.
