About the job
At the KB in The Hague, where over 120 kilometers of library materials, reading promotion, and convolutes converge, you will play a vital role in preparing our unique collections for relocation to our new robotic storage facility. This monumental task involves cleaning, coding, and packaging approximately 7 million items. As our Warehouse Associate for Collection Preparation, you'll ensure a flawless process so that all items are readily accessible to our customers in our new warehouse.
Will you make this possible?
In your role, you will work daily in our 28,000 m2 warehouse, meticulously cleaning, barcoding, and repackaging our library collections. To protect the items, you will use a specialized collection vacuum and microfiber cloths. You'll barcode each book and verify its findability in our computer system (Alma). Additionally, you'll replace outdated packaging to ensure long-term protection of the collection. Furthermore, you are the warehouse associate who:
works very independently while always involving colleagues.
values being physically active during work.
Although you will be working in a unique environment, there are specific conditions to consider. Due to the need to prepare 7 million items in a relatively short timeframe, your tasks may often be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring a high level of productivity. The KB serves as the national library of the Netherlands and operates as a preservation library. Therefore, the warehouse maintains a constant temperature of 18 degrees, and no daylight enters the space, as it can be harmful to the collections. For the safety of yourself, your colleagues, and the collections, strict house rules must be adhered to. If you can handle these responsibilities, you will have a fantastic job with us!
Are you the talent we seek?
We are eager to learn more about you and what makes you unique. Is it your structured approach combined with a positive attitude? Fantastic! Especially if you complement this with the following qualifications for the Warehouse Associate for Collection Preparation role:
VMBO/MBO work and thinking level.
Basic knowledge of Word, Excel, and OneNote.
Ability to work meticulously with collection objects in a repetitive work environment.
Ability to work quickly (high processing speed).
Collegiality and a friendly demeanor.
