Role and Overview
The Wound Medicine Nurse Practitioner, working in close collaboration with physicians and healthcare staff, is dedicated to delivering comprehensive wound management services to patients across various care settings.
Under physician supervision, the Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) will provide top-quality wound care, which may involve staffing outpatient clinics, hospital environments, and conducting home visits.
This role requires the Nurse Practitioner to act as a clinical leader, educator, and liaison among patients and the medical and nursing teams, focusing on effective wound healing and enhancing patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Dependably adhere to scheduled appointments across assigned facilities.
- Exhibit expertise in assessing and delivering local wound care, including techniques for debridement, cleansing, dressing, pressure relief, pain management, and odor control within nursing facilities or clinics.
- Evaluate and recommend Durable Medical Equipment (DME) needs for patients requiring rehabilitation support.
- Apply current infection control measures and treatment protocols for wound care effectively.
- Ensure precise and timely documentation of patient interactions within the electronic medical record.
- Utilize analytical skills and clinical knowledge to contribute to the development and management of departmental policies, goals, and staffing related to wound care.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with peers and interdisciplinary healthcare providers.
- Complete assignments with minimal supervision while demonstrating professionalism.
- Independently manage scheduling and appointments.
- Possess strong communication and organizational abilities.
- Participate in the Wound Care/Pressure Ulcer Prevention Program to enhance clinical outcomes.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher; previous wound care experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a current unencumbered Registered Nurse license.
- At least 1 year of clinical experience in a patient care environment with direct wound and ostomy assessment and treatment skills is preferred.
- Completion or active enrollment in a wound certification program, such as the American Academy of Wound Management (CWS), Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing (WOCN), Wound Care Education Institute (WCC), or a comparable program is preferred. Candidates will be encouraged to complete one of these programs once eligible.
