As a Yard Associate, you will be responsible for handling merchandise, loading and unloading trucks, and assisting customers in a professional manner. Your safety and the protection of company assets, including trucks and forklifts, will be paramount in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a warm welcome to customers and professional contractors as they enter the yard or warehouse.
- Utilize forklifts to manage yard and warehouse stock effectively.
- Assist truck drivers with deliveries to clients' homes and job sites using company equipment.
- Load materials accurately into customer vehicles and company delivery trucks, ensuring correct quantities as per the point-of-sale records.
- Gain expertise in operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment for product movement.
- Safely unload incoming freight while ensuring the integrity of the goods and the carrier's equipment.
- Prepare and build loads for delivery efficiently and accurately.
- Identify and report product shortages or out-of-stock situations to management.
- Maintain a clean and organized yard and warehouse environment.
- Support cashiers and other team members as needed, assisting customers with bulky or bagged items.
- Participate in contractor sales counter functions when required.
Safety and Loss Prevention
- Maintain a solid understanding of security measures related to delivery and yard operations.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and safe for use.
- Adhere to company safety guidelines consistently.
- Participate in regular safety meetings with team members.
- Prepare delivered inventory to minimize loss and theft through proper securing techniques and equipment.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management or other qualified personnel.
