Minimum Requirements:Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam or the capability to complete it within six months of hire. Willingness to travel to project sites, both local and remote, and possess a valid U. S. Driver’s License, subject to passing AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review. Genuine interest in dams and hydraulic structures. U. S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work. Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with geotechnical engineering software such as GeoStudio and gINT. Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering. Experience related to dams or hydraulic structures. Hands-on experience with field subsurface investigations.

AECOM is on the lookout for a skilled and motivated Entry-Level Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer to become a vital member of our East Region Dams Team. This exciting opportunity involves contributing to a diverse range of Dam Safety Engineering projects throughout the East Region. This position will be based at AECOM’s Germantown, Maryland office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist dam project managers by providing technical support in areas such as design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and ensuring regulatory compliance for various dam projects. This entails:
    • Planning and executing geotechnical subsurface exploration programs, including coordinating laboratory testing.
    • Conducting dam analysis and design tasks, such as material characterization, seepage, slope stability, settlement, and filter compatibility analyses.
    • Compiling geotechnical reports, boring logs, drawings, and specifications specific to dam projects.
    • Preparing and delivering technical presentations to the internal project team.
    • Performing field observations and site assessments for dam safety inspections and overseeing dam construction.
  • Aim for increased responsibilities, including project management and obtaining professional engineering certification.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams on various Dam Safety Engineering projects.
  • Be adaptable and willing to travel part-time for project work as required.
