About the job
Focused Energy is an innovative fusion energy startup dedicated to creating limitless clean energy solutions to meet the growing global demand responsibly. We are pioneering the commercialization of laser-induced inertial fusion technology, which offers a clean and highly efficient approach to power generation, ensuring a secure and scalable energy future.
We invite a talented and motivated Laser System Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the future of energy. In this position, you will take charge of the laser driver system throughout its complete engineering lifecycle, from initial architecture to design, integration, commissioning, and operational readiness, transforming it from a research and development platform into a robust, industrial-grade system for fusion power generation. Your expertise will be crucial in facilitating the shift from experimental physics to a functional fusion energy infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the system lifecycle: Lead the laser system through its established lifecycle phases, supporting formal design and readiness reviews (requirements, preliminary and advanced design, integration, and operational readiness), and ensuring alignment between the physics intent, engineering execution, and delivery milestones.
Establish and manage system requirements: Define and maintain system-level requirements (energy, pulse shape, repetition rate, efficiency, reliability, and longevity), ensuring traceability to subsystem requirements, verification methods, and acceptance criteria.
Verification and validation ownership: Develop the system-level verification and validation strategy, ensuring all requirements are demonstrably satisfied through thorough analysis, testing, and commissioning at the component, subsystem, and system levels.
Interface management and integration: Act as the technical authority for laser system interfaces, defining and managing the boundaries between optical modules, control and timing systems, safety measures, facility infrastructure (power, cooling, space, services), and external partner deliverables to guarantee seamless and predictable integration.
