Responsibilities:Ensure reliable launches of astronauts and payloads by optimizing the systems and processes essential for launch operations and rocket recovery. Collaborate with various disciplines involved in the development and construction of Starship and Falcon launch pad systems, ensuring process efficiency. Identify and address high-risk processes and challenges during launch pad and recovery system refurbishment and integrated operations, implementing proactive improvements to achieve operational excellence. Lead investigations into root causes and corrective actions for significant problems. Maintain a feedback loop that drives hardware inputs for a reliable and rapid launch cadence, utilizing data to prioritize and address high-impact issues. Engage in preliminary design reviews (PDR) and critical design reviews (CDR) to collaborate with design teams.

SpaceX is seeking a Launch Reliability Engineer focused on Launch Pads & Recovery at Cape Canaveral, FL. This role supports the reliability of flight and ground systems, working to optimize how operations run and ensuring hardware performs as intended from design through maintenance.

Role overview

The Launch Reliability Engineer works closely with a range of teams across SpaceX. This includes collaborating with Flight Reliability, Launch Engineering, and Launch Operations to support major programs such as Falcon 9, Dragon, and Starship. The position involves both hands-on and analytical work, with time spent in the office, on the factory floor, and at launch sites.

What you will do

  • Oversee hardware reliability throughout its lifecycle, from initial design to production, operation, and maintenance
  • Analyze reliability factors and work with design and development teams to improve manufacturing, testing, and flight performance
  • Support continuous improvement of operational processes for launch pad and recovery systems
  • Contribute to projects supporting crewed spaceflight and long-term goals like Mars colonization

Work environment

This position requires flexibility to work in multiple settings, including office spaces, manufacturing areas, and active launch pads. The role is hands-on and collaborative, offering exposure to a variety of engineering challenges and teams.
