Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering combined with ten (10) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and/or engineering focused on data center infrastructure, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Professional Engineer License (P. E.) is mandatory. Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering along with twelve (12) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and/or engineering, emphasizing data center infrastructure, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Extensive experience in mechanical engineering specifically for data centers or other critical facilities. Strong understanding of HVAC, piping, and fire suppression systems design and construction. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. A proven ability to establish and nurture strong client relationships.

AECOM is in search of a Lead Mechanical Engineer specializing in Hyperscale Data Center projects to spearhead our mechanical engineering efforts in this critical domain. The successful candidate will be tasked with designing and supervising the construction of sophisticated mechanical systems for hyperscale data centers, which encompasses HVAC, piping, and fire suppression systems.

In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our data center infrastructure. A solid foundation in mechanical engineering coupled with experience in high-density data centers is essential for this position.

This role offers the flexibility of remote work, with the possibility of being based at various AECOM office locations in the U. S.

While the position is primarily remote, occasional travel may be necessary for client meetings, key project milestones, onsite collaboration sessions, or other essential business activities. Travel will be scheduled in advance and is expected to be infrequent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Foster and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication to understand their needs and expectations.
  • Lead project coordination with multiple disciplines, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery while managing the mechanical team, including HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing.
  • Create detailed specifications for mechanical equipment such as pumps, fans, and air handling units.
  • Prepare reports for both internal and external purposes based on your findings.
  • Ensure discipline plans align with the overall project scope and timeline.
  • Stay updated on relevant codes and technologies concerning the mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems used in hyperscale data centers.
  • Analyze mechanical system performance, pinpoint areas for enhancement, and recommend upgrades.
  • Provide technical assistance during the construction phase, addressing RFIs and resolving any emerging issues.
  • Participate in site visits, project meetings, and collaborative sessions to ensure project success.
