Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to solve complex problems in real-time environments. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams.

Motional is on the lookout for a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our Planning team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing motion planning and control systems that ensure safe, efficient, and comfortable operations for our fleet in intricate environments. Your expertise in cutting-edge research, advanced algorithm development, and robust software engineering will be crucial in crafting safe and intuitive routes for autonomous vehicles. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the R&D of innovative algorithms and subsystems for motion planning in autonomous driving, enhancing our Operational Design Domain through advanced search-based and geometry-based methods, with a focus on probabilistic decision-making.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects to create or improve existing interfaces aimed at solving complex challenges.
  • Evaluate overall system performance, identifying areas for enhancement and devising technical strategies to rectify deficiencies.
  • Guide multidisciplinary project teams to deliver holistic solutions while considering the broader context of the planning system.
  • Architect and integrate complex motion planning and prediction algorithms, driving their evaluation and optimization for real-world applications.
  • Develop a robust, scalable codebase that supports rapid experimentation, prototyping, and rigorous assessment of new motion planning methodologies.
  • Facilitate technical collaboration across perception, prediction, trajectory optimization, tracking, and control components to ensure comprehensive system performance.
  • Utilize your extensive software development and research expertise to mentor colleagues on best practices, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to both junior and senior team members, promoting an environment centered on product-focused engineering, thorough research, and advanced development.
