Lead Software Engineer – Agentic Foundations
LOCATION: Cincinnati / Chicago
SUMMARY:
The AI Enablement team at 84.51° is on the lookout for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Agentic Foundations team. This dynamic group is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the foundational agentic infrastructure within the Kroger enterprise, which includes platforms, patterns, and tools that facilitate the best practices in AI agent development.
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical leadership across architecture, implementation, and operations of core agentic capabilities such as agent/MCP/scorer/prompt registries, evaluation and monitoring tools, and low-code/no-code platforms designed to simplify complex processes for both developers and business users. You will closely collaborate with product management, data science, and engineering teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions that accelerate time-to-value, enhance quality and reliability, and promote compliant, best-practice utilization of agentic systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design, development, and operation of essential agentic platforms, services, and tools utilized throughout the Kroger enterprise.
- Own technical outcomes for specific product areas such as registries (agent/MCP/scorer/prompt), evaluation frameworks, observability/monitoring, SDKs/APIs/UIs, and low-code/no-code agent platforms.
- Provide expert technical guidance to define and implement scalable, secure, and reliable solutions.
- Maintain high standards for architecture, code quality, testing, and documentation.
- Collaborate with technical and product teams to enhance our agentic capabilities.
