Experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in engineering supervision. Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and practices. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficient in using engineering and inventory software. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

New Flyer seeks a Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor for the 2nd shift in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. This position leads engineering operations within assigned production cells and plays a key role in driving process improvements, lean manufacturing initiatives, and project execution. The supervisor provides hands-on leadership in daily operations, addresses technical challenges, and collaborates with various teams to meet production goals.

Main responsibilities

  • Direct and support manufacturing engineering processes to manage production cells effectively.
  • Work closely with team members to achieve operational targets and resolve issues through corrective actions.
  • Stay up to date on engineering tasks that impact manufacturing activities.
  • Represent manufacturing engineering in meetings and company events.
  • Define or design specifications for equipment, tooling, and racking required for production.
  • Review Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) for assigned cells and assist with floor implementation.
  • Assign default part locations within designated manufacturing cells.
  • Create shop floor instructions and hot sheets, and provide training as needed.
  • Maintain and update plant, cell, inventory, and emergency/security layouts and maps.
  • Lead or support capital equipment and facility upgrades, installations, or modifications.
  • Apply lean manufacturing practices, including 5S, value stream mapping, and setup reduction.
  • Promote continuous improvement and teamwork within the group.
  • Participate in SWAT team meetings to help cross-functional teams resolve issues.
  • Observe processes to confirm fair and consistent labor time standards.
  • Maintain resource plans to support ongoing production needs.
  • Validate routing processes and submit change requests to process planning when necessary.
  • Conduct contract reviews to confirm production readiness per the Manufacturing Readiness Assessment.
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings to help decide on non-conforming materials.
  • Initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) as needed.
  • Support process planning and production engineering projects.
  • Participate in internal and supplier certifications and audits as required.
