Role overview
This freelance AI Trainer position is open to candidates based in New York or elsewhere in the United States. Projects focus on materials science and Python programming, with each assignment presenting new technical challenges. The work is fully remote.
What you will do
- Design materials engineering problems that reflect real-world engineering workflows.
- Create tasks involving Python programming for calculations and simulations.
- Develop problems that require computationally intensive approaches, such as numerical methods or iterative solutions.
- Build scenarios related to system design, optimization, and analysis.
- Base problems on authentic research challenges or practical engineering applications.
- Validate solutions in Python, using established engineering libraries.
- Document problem statements clearly and provide accurate, verified solutions.
Requirements
- Degree in Material Science or a closely related discipline.
- Proficiency in Python for numerical validation. Familiarity with MATLAB, R, C, SQL, Numpy, Pandas, SciPy, or similar libraries is a plus.
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience (applied, research, or teaching).
- Strong understanding of practical engineering constraints and approximations.
- Excellent written English at C1 level or above.

Expect to dedicate roughly 10–20 hours per week during active project periods. Workload may vary depending on project needs and is not guaranteed.
Compensation
Rates can reach up to $76 per hour, depending on expertise and contribution speed. Pay may differ by project, reflecting scope, complexity, and required skills.
