About the job
This full-time, in-office role is based at IEM’s Surrey, British Columbia facility. The Materials Planning Specialist, Inventory Control, helps keep manufacturing operations on track by managing production schedules and inventory levels. This position works closely with teams across production, purchasing, logistics, and customer service to ensure materials and finished goods move smoothly through the process.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate with the Production Scheduler to support adherence to production schedules, identify inventory constraints, and communicate how material availability impacts timelines.
- Monitor raw material, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods inventory to maintain the right supply and avoid excess.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and physical inventory audits, investigating and resolving any discrepancies found.
- Work with procurement to ensure timely purchasing of materials based on production needs and lead times.
- Analyze inventory and production data to spot trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records in ERP/MRP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Infor), including BOMs, routings, and inventory transactions.
- Update stakeholders on production status, delays, and capacity constraints as needed.
- Coordinate with the warehouse team on inventory storage, labeling, and organization.
- Support new product launches by preparing materials and ramp-up plans for production.
- Help develop and enforce inventory control policies and procedures.
- Prepare and share regular production and inventory reports with management.
- Take on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization.
