Specific Skills RequiredProficient in English with strong written communication and report-writing skills. Solid working knowledge of design-supporting software tools. Experience in military-related projects is advantageous. Possession of a valid professional design license. Category B driving license. Minimum RequirementsStrong technical understanding of mechanical building services across diverse market sectors, with solid interdisciplinary awareness. Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design teams. Prior experience as a Senior Mechanical Engineer or Building Services Engineer in a similar senior-level capacity. Robust background in mechanical engineering design, including specification writing, engineering calculations, and developing designs from the ground up (air and water distribution, control systems, etc.).

About the job

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be instrumental in creating high-quality designs for building services. Your responsibilities will encompass everything from conceptual development to detailed design, technical specifications, and comprehensive documentation. You will lead project teams, engage with multidisciplinary stakeholders, and ensure that all design efforts adhere to technical, regulatory, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of mechanical design projects within the office environment.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, quantity surveyors, and design consultants, to gather essential information for project advancement.

  • Guarantee compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements; prepare necessary submissions to authorities and secure the required approvals.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Design Team to ensure all technical details are current throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Generate complete design packages, including calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings, in alignment with IMS requirements and pertinent industry standards and codes.

  • Represent AECOM in client and progress meetings during both design and construction phases.

  • Act as the discipline lead for Building Services projects from feasibility assessments through operational phases.

  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers and specialists, actively contributing to project delivery and team development.

  • Prepare and present technical documentation, presentations, and project reports.

  • Coordinate design and construction activities, liaising with both internal teams and external partners.

  • Enhance AECOM's design standards through continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Deliver, review, and validate mechanical engineering calculations using tools such as HAP Carrier, IES, and Bentley Building Energy Simulator.

  • Negotiate additional fees and manage processes for changes in project scope.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for mechanical engineering issues within the design team.

  • Guide junior staff members and foster ongoing professional development (CPD).

  • Build and strengthen relationships with clients and architects to promote repeat business.

  • Support and improve the company’s 3D and BIM capabilities.

  • Preferred: Experience in mechanical design specifically for Data Center projects.
