About the job

About Neuralink:

At Neuralink, we are pioneering innovative devices that establish a bi-directional interface with the brain. Our groundbreaking technology aims to restore movement to paralyzed individuals, provide sight to the visually impaired, and transform human interaction with the digital landscape.

Team Description:

Become a vital member of Neuralink's Materials Engineering Team, a diverse and elite group of materials engineers, chemists, and device engineers dedicated to developing high-performance, biocompatible materials for the next generation of brain-computer interfaces. We seek a materials/mechanical engineer who excels in creating realistic mechanical models of material behaviors and conducting materials testing using our advanced in-house instrumentation. You will collaborate closely with mechanical engineers and microfabrication specialists to devise system integration and packaging solutions.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

As a Materials Intern, you will contribute to the development of high-density, reliable neural interfaces that are foundational to brain-computer interfaces. This unique opportunity allows you to work within a multidisciplinary team, directly impacting the next generation of products. Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Developing, refining, and employing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models to predict mechanical responses and optimize materials under stress.
  • Utilizing computational models to identify design weaknesses, enhance material selection and geometry, and minimize the need for physical prototypes.
  • Assessing and testing the mechanical properties of implant materials under various challenging conditions to evaluate their performance and longevity.
  • Operating precision instruments, including dynamic mechanical analyzers (DMA) and mechanical oscillators.
  • Assembling, calibrating, and operating components for Accelerated Lifetime Testing (ALT) systems.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to design custom fixtures and develop high-throughput testing equipment, integrating accelerated aging and mechanical fatigue testing.

About Neuralink

Neuralink is at the forefront of neurotechnology, developing revolutionary devices that connect the human brain with computers. Our mission is to enhance the human experience by restoring sensory and motor functions and redefining the way we engage with technology.
