Role Overview: Mid-Level Backend Engineer – Carpool Monetization
The Carpool Monetization team builds and improves the models that drive how BlaBlaCar monetizes its core carpool services. As a Backend Engineer in this group, the focus will be on developing, scaling, and optimizing the Monetization core services. This covers the full feature lifecycle: discovery, technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
The team is cross-functional, including 3 Frontend Engineers, 4 Backend Engineers, a Product Manager, a UX Designer, and an Engineering Manager. Projects touch areas like subscription services, freemium experiences, insurance processes, Energy Saving Certificates, and rolling out monetization in new regions.
Technology Stack
- Java backend services delivered through REST APIs
- Kubernetes infrastructure managed with Terraform
- Event-driven architecture using Kafka
- Datadog for application and infrastructure monitoring
There is also the option to contribute to frontend development if interested.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and monitor Monetization core services
- Support application quality and ongoing improvements; join design discussions and code reviews
