High School diploma or equivalent (Required)No prior experience necessary; however, 0-1 year in an industrial/lab/field setting with strict safety standards is preferred. Position may require occasional overtime. Intermediate proficiency in English is required. Logical and practical reasoning skills at an intermediate level to solve problems effectively. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for presenting information in individual and small group contexts to internal or external stakeholders. Ability to follow directions meticulously, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all tasks. Capability to manage problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Adeptness in reading and interpreting safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

About the job

The Mineral Sample Preparation Technician plays a crucial role in the meticulous preparation of mineral samples for analysis, adhering to all relevant standards and company protocols. In this position, you will:

  • Unpack, sort, transfer, and dry samples effectively.
  • Perform crushing, pulverizing, and screening of geological materials following SGS’ Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Conduct routine quality checks, including particle size analysis and dust loss, immediately reporting any deviations to the Supervisor or team leader.
  • Ensure thorough completion of work order documentation and accurately enter quality control results into SLIMS.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, promptly cleaning spills and disposing of materials according to laboratory procedures, including specific handling requirements for international soils.
  • Keep equipment in optimal working condition, notifying the Supervisor or team leader of any damaged or defective equipment.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and logs for work orders and equipment maintenance.
  • Be flexible to assist in various sections of the Geochemistry laboratory as needed.
