Position Overview:
In the role of Mold Maintenance - Composites Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the operational readiness of composite molds utilized in the creation of high-performance marine structures. Your efforts will be pivotal in maintaining mold integrity, which directly impacts the quality, efficiency, and consistency of production.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough inspections of molds before and after usage to identify wear, damage, or contamination.
Perform routine cleaning, polishing, and surface preparation of mold tools.
Repair surface imperfections, cracks, or damage to flanges using appropriate resins and fillers.
Apply and maintain various mold release systems including wax and semi-permanent coatings.
Monitor mold usage cycles and assist in executing preventative maintenance schedules.
Organize and maintain mold storage systems under proper environmental controls.
Support the modification or refinement of mold tooling as per engineering changes.
Collaborate with layup and finishing teams to troubleshoot and resolve mold alignment or part release challenges.
Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspection results.
Maintain an organized labeling system for molds.
Assist with scribing, dimpling, and installation of flange monuments.
Utilize electronic systems to track and manage assigned work tasks.
Contribute to the development and adherence to mold maintenance and repair standards.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with composite molds in a production or prototyping environment.
Strong understanding of mold preparation, release systems, and composite tooling materials.
Ability to diagnose and repair common mold issues such as scratches, pitting, and delamination.
Familiarity with epoxy tooling systems, fiberglass or carbon fiber molds, and gelcoat repair.
Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to maintaining high-gloss or tolerance-critical surfaces.
