This freelance Optical Engineer - AI Specialist role with toloka-ai offers remote, project-based work from Wisconsin or elsewhere in the United States. Assignments are temporary and center on supporting AI development by designing and evaluating advanced optics problems for leading technology partners.
What You Will Do
- Create original optics problems modeled after real-world physics research processes.
- Design computationally intensive challenges that would require days or weeks to solve manually.
- Develop assignments demanding advanced reasoning in mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics.
- Base problems on real research scenarios or practical applications in optics and physics.
- Document each problem clearly and provide verified solutions.
Requirements
- Degree in Physics (theoretical, experimental, or computational) or a closely related field
- At least 2 years of experience in applied, research, or teaching roles
- Strong numerical simulation skills
- Ability to design problems that reflect real research workflows in physics
- Creative approach to formulating problems across multiple physics domains
- Familiarity with physics modeling and approximation techniques
- Excellent written English skills at C1 level or above
Project Commitment
Active project phases typically require about 10–20 hours per week, though this may vary by project and is not a guaranteed minimum or maximum.
Compensation
Earnings can reach up to $76 per hour, depending on expertise, task complexity, and completion speed. Rates may differ for other projects on the platform.
