To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:Late model equipment that meets Altom’s inspection standards. Valid CDL Class A License. Tanker Endorsement (N) – Required. Hazmat Endorsement (H) – Preferred (must be obtained within 90 days of hire; assistance available). TWIC Card – Preferred (or must be obtained after hire). Minimum 1 year of verifiable tanker driving experience. At least 23 years of age. Clean MVR with a strong safety record. Able to pass DOT physical, drug screening, and background check. Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently. Willingness to work flexible schedules, including 24/7 operations if required.

Role overview

This Owner Operator - Tanker Driver position is based in Detroit, Michigan. The role involves over-the-road driving, often requiring trips that keep drivers away from home for five or more days at a time.

Main responsibilities

  • Safe transportation: Haul chemical and petroleum products while following DOT regulations.
  • Equipment maintenance: Keep your truck compliant with inspection standards and ensure it is ready for long hauls.
  • Loading and unloading: Adhere to procedures for ISO/Flexi-Bag or tanker operations.
  • Compliance and documentation: Maintain accurate logs, submit required paperwork, and follow Hazmat regulations.
  • Customer service: Represent Altom Transport professionally at customer sites.
  • Business management: Oversee fuel purchases, trip planning, and scheduling to maximize revenue.
  • Meet mileage or hour requirements to help reach operational goals.
  • Be available for 24/7 operations as needed.
