Overview: Barnes & Thornburg LLP is actively looking for two motivated individuals to join our downtown Indianapolis office as Legislative Interns. This paid internship provides a unique opportunity to engage with our Government Services Practice during the first legislative session of the 54th Indiana General Assembly. The internship will commence on January 4, 2027, and conclude on April 30, 2027. Interns will work full-time (40 hours per week) and participate in legislative activities at the Indiana State House, as well as maintain regular communication with clients under the guidance of supervising attorneys.Key Responsibilities:Support one or more attorneys by assisting with client communications, researching relevant legislation, and facilitating client events.Create and compile client reports using customized legislative software (training will be provided) on various legislative topics, including amendments and hearings.Contribute to the development of a weekly legislative newsletter for clients and prepare tailored presentations for specific industry sectors as directed.Draft legislative updates, talking points, and other communications, often under tight deadlines due to the fast-paced nature of the legislative session.Monitor the progress of bills, including in-person attendance at committee hearings and events at the Indiana State Capitol.Assist clients in planning and participating in Day at the State House events and other legislative activities.Aid in the research and drafting of legislative proposals.Candidates must be able to perform all essential job functions satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.
