RequirementsEssential Skills:A minimum of 12 months of experience in a Paint & Roto position. Traditional art and design skills, including a solid understanding of composition and color theory. Familiarity with Nuke software. Experience with Linux operating systems. Comprehension of motion blur and its impact on mattes and patches. Experience with a roto-scoping package, preferably Silhouette. A passion for learning new techniques and mentoring fellow artists. A degree in Arts or Science related to moving pictures or art. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Receptiveness to constructive criticism and feedback. Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on collaboration. Desirable Skills:Previous experience in a Paint and Roto role. Experience with the 3D Maya interface. Understanding of Python scripting for creating and editing Framestore tools.

About the job

Framestore is seeking talented and experienced Paint and Roto Artists to collaborate closely with our Compositors in the creation of stunning visual effects for film. The role involves integrating various elements of imagery, including CG and live action, to produce seamless visual effects shots. You will be tasked with creating precise mattes for CG hold-outs and employing a range of techniques and software to effectively remove unwanted items such as wires, rigs, and tracking markers.

  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing roto mattes that Compositors will utilize, with a thorough understanding of their application.

  • Utilizing patches along with frame-by-frame painting techniques to eliminate rigs and tracking markers.

  • Performing de-graining and re-graining of paint work before finalizing it for production.

  • Understanding 3D tracking to create accurate 1, 2, and 4 point tracks.

  • Producing foreground mattes for Animators to use within Maya.

  • Navigating Linux systems to manage and create shot directories efficiently.

  • Reconstructing and creating visuals that do not exist in reality.

  • Employing expressions within Nuke to enhance paint work.

  • Having a solid understanding of the 3D environment in Nuke, including the use of geo data for projecting clean plates and utilizing UV projections.

  • Providing accurate estimates for the duration required to complete paint and roto shots.

  • Engaging in the learning and development of specific Framestore tools and workflows.

  • Executing basic composite tasks in Nuke, demonstrating skills in keying, grading, re-timing, and screen insertion.

  • Exhibiting a strong willingness to learn new techniques and software, while also sharing knowledge with fellow artists in the department.
