During our time at SpaceX, we contributed to the creation of the largest rocket ever built, launched an unparalleled constellation of satellites, and provided connectivity to millions globally. We've learned that infrastructure is fundamental.
At Starbase, we discovered that the biggest hurdle to launching Mars missions wasn't the rocket itself, but rather the slow, costly, and complex process of building the necessary infrastructure. We faced significant challenges such as inadequate buildings, roads, water, power, communications, and waste management systems, all of which required disproportionate time and resources to develop.
From a foundational perspective, this is illogical. There should be a more efficient and cost-effective way to establish the groundwork for advancement. This realization led us to understand that the engineering principles that allowed us to conquer space exploration and mass production could be applied to infrastructure. By incorporating simplification, iteration, acceleration, and automation into construction, we can usher in a new era of global building.
Enhancing infrastructure paves the way for progress across all sectors, creating a sustainable engine for addressing humanity's toughest challenges. The innovations we cultivate on Earth will serve as the foundation for technologies that will, one day, enable human settlement on Mars.
Role Overview
In this role, you will design and implement perception systems that equip our automated heavy machinery with the necessary awareness to function effectively in intricate, unstructured environments. This position merges high-level architectural decisions with practical algorithm development, hardware integration, and field testing. You will engage with the entire perception stack, including the integration and calibration of advanced sensors and the creation of real-time processing pipelines for images, point clouds, and other high-bandwidth data streams. Your contributions will drive essential functions such as collision avoidance, motion planning, localization, and operator visualization.
