About Voyant Photonics
Located in the vibrant heart of New York City, Voyant Photonics is revolutionizing machine perception with cutting-edge LiDAR technology. Our innovative devices are compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand while delivering exceptional performance in measuring range, velocity, and reflectivity with unmatched precision. By utilizing advanced silicon photonic chips, we offer sensors that not only perform at the highest levels but are also cost-effective for integration into various systems.
Our technology challenges the conventional bulky, expensive, and energy-intensive LiDAR systems, making high-precision sensing accessible for widespread use in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, industrial automation, and more.
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Photonic Layout Engineer to aid in the design and development of sophisticated photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for our FMCW LiDAR systems. In this role, you will convert schematic designs into manufacturable layouts, integrating intricate passive and active photonic components along with electrical and mechanical interfaces. Proficiency in GDSII layouts and Python scripting for automating layout and verification processes, including DRC and LVS, is essential. Your expertise in PIC layout will be vital as you contribute to the creation of high-density, high-performance photonic chips that push the boundaries of integration.
Initially, you will collaborate closely with two senior silicon photonics designers, and as our team expands, you will have the opportunity to work alongside additional layout engineers, photonics designers, and modeling engineers. This position offers a clear pathway for advancement, from managing small test structures to overseeing complete tapeout submissions.
Location: NYC preferred, with remote opportunities available. We are also open to assisting with relocation if you are considering the move.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the layout of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) from conception to tapeout
Develop and maintain a library of parameterized photonic component cells (PCells)Integrate photonic and electronic layouts (co-layout) for heterogeneous integration
Implement photonic design rules and ensure compliance with foundry-specific PDK constraints
Work closely with the photonics design, systems, test, and packaging teams to deliver manufacturable, testable, and high-performance PIC designs
Execute waveguide routing, die- and reticle-level floorplanning, and integration with electronic and packaging interfaces
