About the job
Guidepoint is a forward-thinking enterprise software company that is currently undertaking a transformative modernization strategy, transitioning from a legacy monolithic system to a sophisticated, cloud-native infrastructure powered by Kubernetes. We are on the lookout for a highly skilled PostgreSQL Database Administrator and Architect who will take charge of designing, operating, and evolving our PostgreSQL platforms to support cutting-edge cloud-native, microservices-based applications. This pivotal role is essential for ensuring our data layer remains scalable, resilient, secure, and perfectly aligned with our Kubernetes-driven architectures.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with platform engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and application teams. You will be responsible for architecting PostgreSQL frameworks that effectively support containerized workloads, distributed systems, and high-throughput microservices. This is a hands-on leadership position that demands deep expertise in PostgreSQL coupled with modern cloud and Kubernetes experience. Your contributions will be vital in driving our modernization efforts, minimizing redundancy, speeding up delivery, and constructing a cohesive, future-ready enterprise architecture.
This position is a hybrid role based out of our Pune office.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, deploy, and manage PostgreSQL platforms optimized for microservices operating on Kubernetes, ensuring they are scalable, isolated, and resilient.
- Architect and oversee Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server and Hyperscale (Citus) to guarantee high availability, disaster recovery, and global scalability.
- Establish database design patterns for microservices, including database-per-service, shared services, read replicas, and event-driven data flows.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure PostgreSQL is integrated within CI/CD pipelines, enabling rolling deployments and zero-downtime releases.
- Lead performance tuning and capacity planning across compute, storage, IOPS, memory, and network layers.
- Troubleshoot complex PostgreSQL internals, including autovacuum, WAL, MVCC, locking, query planner behavior, and background processes.
- Design distributed data architectures utilizing replication, logical decoding, sharding, and multi-region configurations.
- Support PostgreSQL connectivity patterns for Kubernetes workloads, including connection pooling, PgBouncer, sidecar deployments, and service mesh integrations.
- Lead and implement cloud migrations and modernization initiatives from on-premises or legacy platforms to cloud-native PostgreSQL solutions.
- Enforce enterprise-grade security and compliance measures including Azure AD integration, encryption at rest and in transit, Private Link, and customer-managed keys.
- Develop and maintain automation and infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform.
