Qualifications

Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an automotive discipline or related field. Experience:At least 5 years of experience in automotive or aerospace passive safety testing or development, adhering to European/Federal/Global standards (required). Experience in managing teams or businesses of comparable size (required). Proven track record in planning and organizational skills (required). Expertise in sled testing methodologies (required). Familiarity with systems testing (Static Rig) is preferable. Experience with FARO Arm or similar Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). Competence in setting up and operating high-speed cameras, GoPros, and DSLR cameras. Proficient in data acquisition techniques. Skills:Thorough understanding of passive safety test requirements relevant to sled testing and their implications for test facility configurations (required). Strong interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and customer interaction. Ability to analyze data and generate actionable insights for improvement.

About the job

As a Principal Engineer in our Servo-Sled test facility at UTAC, you will report directly to the Senior Manager of Passive Safety Testing. This role is pivotal to ensuring our department excels in health and safety as well as operational efficiency. You will be integral in supporting the Senior Manager and Chief Engineer in achieving our financial and technical objectives. Your expertise will guarantee that all activities are conducted professionally, meeting customer satisfaction, while contributing to the department's growth in both capability and capacity. You will collaborate closely with the Passive Safety team, enhancing systems testing across various static rigs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee health and safety protocols, including risk assessments and safety observation tours.
  • Lead a small team of engineers and technicians (fewer than 10).
  • Manage work scheduling and resource allocation effectively.
  • Engage with customers to understand their future workload and requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using established group methodologies.
  • Develop, report, and enhance departmental metrics to guide strategic planning.
  • Handle financial responsibilities, including invoicing and purchase order approvals.
  • Assist in maintaining ISO17025, ISO9001, and other relevant accreditations.
  • Develop staff training and professional development plans.
  • Monitor sled test equipment usage and address issues as they arise.
  • Establish and refine sled testing protocols.
  • Exemplify UTAC's core values in all operations.
