About the job

Our Mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are at the forefront of revolutionizing electric aviation. Our innovative eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing) aircraft, Valo, aims to establish an unprecedented safety standard for aerial navigation with its 'zero emissions' design.

We are committed to breaking away from traditional aerospace practices to 'redefine' industry standards. As we transition from a prototype-focused entity to a rapidly growing SME, the coming years are pivotal for our success and the achievement of our ambitious targets, including airliner-level safety certification slated for 2028 in partnership with our airline and operator clients.

What to Expect
In the role of Principal Flight Dynamics Engineer, you will be instrumental in defining the flight behavior and performance of our aircraft. Collaborating closely with fellow Flight Dynamics engineers and other teams such as Flight Physics, Flight Test, Flight Control, and Simulation, you will oversee the modeling, analysis, and certification of Valo's flight characteristics across the entire flight envelope. This position demands a high degree of collaboration and will significantly impact safety, handling qualities, and certification outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation of flight dynamics models for all phases of flight, from hover to cruise.
  • Conduct stability, control, and performance analysis utilizing both proprietary and industry-standard tools.
  • Assist in or spearhead the development of flight dynamics analysis toolsets, including system identification and parameter estimation techniques, to enhance models and facilitate certification.
  • Work collaboratively with flight control, simulation, and test teams to refine Valo's design and testing strategies.
  • Formulate and implement the handling qualities certification plan for Valo.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers while reviewing technical contributions across the team.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive and demonstrable experience in flight dynamics modeling for fixed-wing aircraft or rotorcraft.
  • A solid background in developing flight dynamics models.
  • Proficient in analyzing stability, control, and performance metrics.
  • Strong collaborative skills and a passion for innovation in aerospace.
