Ready to push the boundaries of what’s achievable?We’re looking for the following:Significant experience with hydraulic and water quality modelling software (such as Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, and/or TUFLOW). Comprehensive understanding of Environment Agency requirements for preparing flood models for flood risk assessments. Basic familiarity with physico-chemical water quality and relevant regulatory standards for freshwater systems. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related field. Professional qualification with CIWEM or similar is preferred or expected to be obtained soon. Practical knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Anaconda, or Ruby would be advantageous. You should also be self-motivated, capable of working independently when needed, and possess a strong sense of commitment and willingness to learn.

Our Water division is seeking a dedicated Senior Flood Modeller to become an integral part of our vibrant and expanding Water Business Line. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-profile and impactful projects throughout the UK and beyond, all while being at the center of one of the UK’s most ambitious and interconnected engineering hubs.

As a senior technical resource, you will play a pivotal role in mentoring our junior team members and actively enhancing our services for local authorities, water companies, and both public and private sector clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and validating hydraulic models using software tools such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, and ICM to support the design of Flood Alleviation Schemes, conduct Flood Risk Assessments, and perform reservoir flood studies.
  • Developing water quality models, which may involve physico-chemical, biological, bacterial, or chemical factors using industry-standard software like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and/or ICM.
  • Conceptualizing and scoping modelling methodologies, assessing risks and opportunities in each case.
  • Conducting and reviewing hydrological assessments, including Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP.
  • Leading efforts on tenders ranging from innovative one-off projects to multimillion-pound framework contracts.
  • Guiding team members to facilitate their professional growth.
  • Building strong relationships with clients and across various technical disciplines.
  • Staying abreast of legislative developments and guidelines that may impact our services.
  • Utilizing AECOM’s project management systems to ensure the delivery of high-quality outputs to our clients, within the agreed timelines and budget.
  • Collaborating closely with clients and teams of engineers and technical specialists to support a diverse range of flood risk management projects, including fluvial, coastal, surface water, and drainage.
