Significant experience in delivering hydrological assessments within consultancy or regulatory frameworks. In-depth knowledge of UK hydrological guidelines (e.g., FEH methods, Flood Estimation Handbook, EA guidance). Proficiency with hydrological modelling tools and data analysis software. Demonstrated ability to lead projects and provide technical direction. Chartered status (CEng, CSci, or CEnv) or actively pursuing chartership. Exceptional communication skills with experience in engaging clients and stakeholders. You should also be self-driven, able to work independently when necessary, possess a strong commitment to your work, a willingness to learn, and a desire to thrive in a dynamic, deadline-oriented team environment.

Join our vibrant and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Hydrologist. This role offers the flexibility of being based in one of our UK or Ireland offices while benefiting from our adaptable hybrid working model.

As a pivotal team member, you will spearhead impactful water projects both across the UK and internationally. Your expertise will be essential in conducting hydrological assessments that inform flood risk management, major infrastructure development, water resources planning, and environmental permitting.

This senior position merges technical proficiency, client engagement, project supervision, and leadership within our expanding water team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading hydrological assessments to inform flood risk evaluations, infrastructure design, catchment strategies, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Providing technical guidance on rainfall-runoff modelling, river flow estimation, climate change allowances, and catchment analysis.
  • Overseeing and reviewing hydrological modelling outputs to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to UK regulatory standards.
  • Acting as the technical lead on major frameworks and multidisciplinary projects across transport, energy, water, and development sectors.
  • Advising clients on flood risk policies, drainage strategies, abstraction licensing, and environmental permitting requirements.
  • Mentoring and developing junior hydrologists, promoting technical excellence and knowledge exchange.
  • Supporting business development initiatives, including bid preparation and client relationship management.
