Significant experience in delivering hydrological assessments within consultancy or regulatory settings. In-depth knowledge of UK hydrological guidance (e.g., Flood Estimation Handbook, FEH methods, EA guidance). Proficiency with hydrological modeling tools and data analysis software. Demonstrated capability to lead projects and provide technical oversight. Chartered status (CEng, CSci, or CEnv) or in the process of obtaining chartership. Exceptional communication skills with experience in engaging clients and stakeholders effectively. You should also be self-motivated, able to work autonomously when necessary, with a strong commitment, a willingness to learn, and a desire to excel in a dynamic and deadline-driven team environment.

Become a pivotal member of our innovative and interdisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Hydrologist. This role allows you to work from one of our UK or Ireland offices while benefiting from our flexible hybrid working model.

As a Principal Hydrologist, your expertise will be instrumental in delivering significant water projects both domestically and internationally. You will spearhead hydrological assessments that guide flood risk management, major infrastructure planning, water resource strategies, and environmental permitting.

This senior position entails a blend of technical proficiency, client interaction, project management, and team leadership within an expanding water division.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading hydrological assessments to facilitate flood risk evaluations, infrastructure design, catchment strategies, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Providing technical guidance on rainfall-runoff modeling, river flow estimation, climate change considerations, and catchment analysis.
  • Supervising and reviewing hydrological modeling results to ensure quality, precision, and adherence to UK regulatory guidelines.
  • Serving as the technical lead on significant frameworks and multidisciplinary projects spanning the transport, energy, water, and development sectors.
  • Advising clients on flood risk policies, drainage strategies, abstraction licensing, and environmental permitting needs.
  • Mentoring and developing junior hydrologists, promoting technical excellence and knowledge exchange.
  • Supporting business development initiatives, including bid preparation and client relationship management.
