Are you ready to redefine the boundaries of what's possible?We are looking for:Extensive marine ecological expertise with proven experience in preparing and reviewing specialist technical chapters and associated impact assessments, including EIA, HRA, MCZ, and WFD. A thorough understanding of the marine consenting and licensing frameworks across the UK, including experience in liaising with and submitting applications to key regulatory bodies such as the MMO, NRW, Scottish MD, and The Crown Estate. The ability to provide technical guidance and apply advanced scientific practices, theories, and technologies to a diverse array of marine projects. Marine field survey experience is advantageous, particularly in benthic studies, fish, shellfish, and/or marine mammals. Experience in team coordination, including mentoring and managing junior team members. A strong aptitude for business development and client engagement.

Join our vibrant Nature team as a Principal Marine Ecologist based in one of our offices throughout the UK and Ireland, including Basingstoke, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Birmingham, Cambridge, and Dublin. Our flexible hybrid working model allows you to balance your professional and personal life effectively. In this role, you will leverage your skills, knowledge, and expertise to contribute to both national and international projects. Our portfolio encompasses a wide array of sectors, such as high-profile power and infrastructure initiatives (including floating offshore wind), national and international interconnectors, habitat restoration efforts, flood defense projects, and coastal development schemes (e.g., marinas, jetties, slipways, and port developments).

You will collaborate with a dedicated team of marine and aquatic ecologists and marine EIA specialists to enhance the growth and development of our marine ecology team while expanding our portfolio of prestigious marine projects. As a client-facing professional, you will assume responsibility for technical project delivery and business development, reporting directly to the Marine Ecology Lead.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a Subject Matter Expert: Provide expert marine ecological and marine consenting guidance, both internally and externally. Direct contributions to various workstreams and deliverables across a diverse range of projects, including participation in the comprehensive EIA or DCO development cycle of major initiatives. Deliver marine ecology impact assessments, including ES chapters, HRA, MCZ, WFD, and support for all necessary license and permitting applications for marine projects.
  • Ensuring Quality: Maintain a keen attention to detail to guarantee that our deliverables meet the highest quality standards and adhere to our rigorous quality management protocols. Possess exceptional writing and communication skills, capable of tailoring complex scientific information for diverse audiences.
  • Collaboration: Work within a multidisciplinary team to enhance the environmental outcomes of our projects, collaborating with specialists in underwater acoustics, coastal processes, water science, and marine archaeology, as well as EIA colleagues.
  • Driving Growth and Business Development: Contribute to the marine ecology team's business development efforts by creating technical and fee proposals, as well as broader marketing strategies. Confidently present to internal and external stakeholders and facilitate client interactions.
  • Project Management: Exhibit effective project management skills to oversee project delivery.
