Are You Ready to Challenge the Norm?We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications:Professionally qualified CEng Chartered Engineer with a recognized electrical engineering institution (e.g., the IET). A bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent technical discipline, specifically in electrical engineering or power engineering. Demonstrable experience in delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE, and SPT in accordance with each operator’s standards. Project experience in overhead line engineering, preferably up to 400kV. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering department offers a comprehensive suite of services, managing projects from initial concept through Power Systems Analysis, Cabling, Substations, Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure, System Balancing and Compensation, Protection Systems, SCADA, Communications, Converter Station Design, HVDC Systems, and Interconnectors, including overseas links.

Key Responsibilities:

As a vital member of our Transmission & Distribution team, you will lead and collaborate with clients to execute technically demanding overhead line design projects.

Your primary responsibility as the Principal OHL Engineer will be to provide technical support and spearhead the design of transmission projects, working on diverse projects involving overhead transmission lines up to 400kV.

  • Deliver technical support for overhead line design on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Engage in significant work programs, such as the GGP projects.
  • Assist in drafting proposals outlining project specifics, including timelines, resources, budgets, objectives, and goals.
  • Provide ongoing technical support during project implementation, statutory planning, and public consultation events.
  • Oversee design activities related to overhead lines, including PLS-CADD modeling, detailed line routing, structural analysis, design criteria formulation, sag-tension calculations, and conductor/insulator selection.
  • Support feasibility studies, conduct thermal rating assessments, and ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct studies to identify the optimal technical solution/layout for client presentation.
  • Generate and validate engineering deliverables such as complex designs, reports, proposals, presentations, and drawing packages.
  • Perform internal quality checks on engineering drawings and calculations.
