Proficiency with JD Edwards software. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, particularly in data analysis and reporting. Strong understanding of accrual-based accounting principles. Preferred SkillsExperience in the Construction industry. Familiarity with Cost Control and Project Controls.

Join our dynamic Major Projects group as a Project Accountant in Edmonton, AB. This pivotal role reports directly to the Project Controller and plays a vital role in the financial success of our major projects.

As a Project Accountant, you will provide essential accounting support and operational cost control for your assigned projects. Your contributions will be integral throughout the entire project life-cycle, ensuring effective cost management and financial accuracy.

This is a Monday to Friday, 8-hour per day office-based position located at our Head Office in South Edmonton.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate and oversee the setup of new projects.
  • Lead month-end cost accrual meetings with project managers, procurement, and receiving teams to compile and record cost information.
  • Assist the Project Controller in conducting weekly, monthly, and quarterly reviews of project costs.
  • Prepare client invoices and monitor all billing activities.
  • Manage project budgets to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Identify and rectify cost coding errors.
  • Review and manage contracts with subcontractors.
  • Handle project cost accruals efficiently.
  • Record financial transactions accurately through journal entries.
  • Reconcile project expenses to maintain financial integrity.
  • Support the processing of change orders.
  • Gather and prepare information for internal and external audits.
  • Analyze project profitability and performance metrics.
  • Contribute to financial forecasting and planning.
  • Engage in special projects and use Excel for analytical tasks.
  • Provide oversight for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable as required.
  • Facilitate the closeout process for completed projects.
  • Ensure compliance with established systems and processes.
