You also identify with the following:An academic level of thinking and working, with a completed Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or another technical field with a similar background;Relevant programming experience in languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++;Interest in and willingness to learn about GNSS interference;Experience with signal processing and/or RF systems is a plus;Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English;A proactive mindset and the ability to work independently.

About the job

NLR (Netherlands Aerospace Centre) is looking for an R&D Engineer GNSS and Navigation (m/f/x) to join its Amsterdam team. This position centers on satellite navigation for both civilian and military uses, aiming to improve the safety and intelligence of navigation systems.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues to research, develop, and test Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) solutions.
  • Process GNSS signals and examine how jamming and spoofing affect navigation systems.
  • Apply Software Defined Radios to study GNSS receiver processing and methods to counter interference.
  • Design and conduct tests to assess PNT equipment under GNSS jamming and spoofing scenarios.
  • Share research results with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders through presentations.

Sample Projects and Tasks

  • Explore GNSS receiver techniques and contribute to the department’s technical expertise.
  • Analyze vulnerabilities from GNSS disruptions and build skills in interference detection.
  • Test PNT solutions using GNSS simulators or at the NLR Drone Center.
  • Create PNT systems and tools to help clients detect and locate interference.

Collaboration

The team partners with a wide range of clients, including government agencies (especially in defense), industry partners in the Netherlands and abroad, research institutes, and universities. Regular communication and providing well-supported advice are important aspects of this role.
