Navarro Research and Engineering is actively seeking a skilled Radiological Control Technician to join our team in Oak Ridge, TN. An active DOE Q Clearance is a prerequisite for this position.

In this role, you will monitor personnel, work areas, and items exiting radiological zones to manage exposure to internal and external radiation sources. You will recommend suitable monitoring devices, protective gear, and optimal working durations for personnel engaged with radiation sources. Your responsibilities will include observing processes, reading and recording data from radiation detection instruments, and conducting air and bioassay sampling. You will investigate any results that exceed established standards and limits. Additionally, you will calibrate instruments, operate automated low background counting equipment, process TLDs, and execute lung counts. Your involvement in the planning phase of new work processes will also be essential, and you will serve as a vital member of the emergency response organization.
Special Knowledge and Training:
This role requires DOE RCT standardized CORE training certification. You should possess the capability to perform mathematical operations and conversions to articulate sampling and monitoring results accurately. A solid understanding of the principles, methods, and mechanics of monitoring and sampling radiological hazards is essential, as is the ability to recognize and address issues related to standards and limits, plan investigative actions, and define corrective measures.
Requirements:
Applicants should hold an Associate's degree or higher in a technical field, coupled with 2-5 years of relevant experience; alternatively, a high school diploma with 5-12 years of relevant experience is acceptable. Preferred candidates will have an Associate's degree or higher in a technical field along with 10 to 15 years of related experience, or a high school diploma with 20 or more years of relevant experience. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and skills in a technical specialty are required. This position may involve leading other technicians by planning and directing their work.
