THE ROLE

At VEG, we don’t merely hire assistants, we cultivate the next generation of emergency veterinary professionals. As a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you’ll dive into the action from day one, supporting your team, providing comfort to pet parents, and gaining real-time experience in emergency care. You will participate in triaging, treatment, and creating positive outcomes for pets. Whether you're aspiring to become a credentialed technician or just beginning your journey, we are dedicated to fostering your growth every step of the way.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a warm welcome and steady support by triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward appropriate care.
  • Assist with various treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
  • Collaborate with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians in setting up and monitoring anesthesia and sedation cases.
  • Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
  • Support care during all phases, from outpatient to inpatient, and in both exam and treatment areas.
  • Participate in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
  • Gain CPR skills and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
  • Advance to more complex responsibilities as you grow within the role.
