Role overview This is Protege’s first Head of Security role, offered remotely. The position covers security strategy, architecture, daily operations, and fostering a strong security culture. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Head of Security will work closely with engineering, product, and legal teams. The mandate includes building Protege’s security program from the ground up while remaining hands-on with technical challenges. This leader will play a key role in building trust with AI clients and data partners. Main responsibilities Advance security and compliance Audit current systems to identify vulnerabilities, prioritize improvements, and formalize security practices. Develop and document security policies and frameworks tailored to a growing company. Manage and enhance compliance efforts, including maintaining SOC 2 Type II certification, strengthening controls, and automating processes where possible. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare data regulations, and establish a strong PHI protection program. Protect the data pipeline Secure all stages of the training data lifecycle: ingestion, processing, storage, preparation, and delivery. Collaborate with engineering to integrate security into CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and data workflows. Stay technical and hands-on Lead threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and security testing.
